HISTORY
The Phoenix Police Reserve was formed in 1951, as an outgrowth of the civil defense auxiliary which existed during World War II.
The Reserve Division is one of the police department's eight major divisions, which is headed by an Assistant Chief. It is nationally recognized as one of the best police reserve organizations in the country. The Mayor and Police Chief have set a goal to have a force of 300 sworn reserve officers.
Reserve officers supplement the police department's daily operational capabilities. In addition, they are a force of additional police officers which may be deployed for increased homeland security during times of natural or man-made emergencies.
The Phoenix Police Department has long set a tradition and standard of excellence for police training and police service. The Department has more than 4,500 sworn and non-sworn personnel, who serve more than 500 square miles of the city, which is geographically larger than Los Angeles. Our reserve officers serve a diverse community of nearly 1.5 million residents with state-of-the-art equipment and policing programs, which make our community a safer and better place every day.
We are seeking men and women who will continue with their chosen careers, while volunteering to serve and protect our community as full-authority sworn police officers. Our reserve officers are teachers, physicians, attorneys, business men and women, graphic designers, commercial airline pilots, engineers, mortgage and real estate brokers, firefighters, retired career police officers and members of the military, to name a few.
Service as a reserve officer offers: challenge, excitement, variety, teamwork, satisfaction, opportunities for special assignments and promotion, excellent benefits and significant personal rewards. Protect and Serve...Become a Reserve. You will become a member of a very special organization built upon honor, tradition service, courage and commitment.
